Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra - What Changes do you expect!

The Samsung galaxy s2 ultra has been leaked and Samsung is definitely not happy about it but this leak which comes from john Prosser does give us a very good look at some of the biggest changes coming to the s22 ultra so here are the

five main changes to expect with

The biggest one by far is the Design you see for a long time now Samsung has had two major lineups the s line and the galaxy note line with the note line being released six months after the s line and future things such as s-pen a more flat design as opposed to the more rounded design of the s-line and sometimes it even featured better cameras but in 2021 Samsung decided not to release a galaxy note at all as it wanted to focus more on their new foldable line the galaxy z so with the

galaxy s 22 ultra Samsung is changing the design in the biggest possible way they're essentially turning it into the galaxy note the shape of the phone is now flattered as opposed to the more rounded look of the galaxy s line  and

I actually love this change as I've always preferred the way the melt line looked when compared to the galaxy s line but I do know a lot of people who don't like the shape at all as it is more uncomfortable to hold and use for prolonged periods of time and I have to agree with this despite its looks the note 20 ultra was honestly the most uncomfortable phone that I've ever used as its sharp corners would really get into the palm of my hand however you could argue the same about the iPhone 12 and 13 which did actually bring the flat frame back which in my opinion did look considerably better than the wet shape of before but it too made the newer iPhones more uncomfortable to hold

now aside from the new rectangular look, the camera arrangement on the back would also be changed from the separate block that we had on the s21 ultra to this really weird look where the modules are sitting directly on the back of the phone and I have gotta be honest here I think

it looks awful uh I would look so much better if the camera modules were flush with the phone but if we are to go by the recent leaks they're actually not they even seem to have different heights which makes the entire phone look like a prototype even though this is apparently the real deal

something that i do want to point out here is that even though the cameras do stick out they don't stick out as much as the camera bump on the s21 ultra dose which makes me think that samsung has actually made the entire phone thicker speaking of the thickness from the leaked images the bezels seem to be just as thin as on the note 20 ultra which because of its rectangular shape and the greater curvature of the screen gave you the impression that they were even thinner than on the s21 ultra however according to ice universe the curvature of the display would not be as drastic as it was on the note 20 ultra but rather more similar to the note 10 plus or potentially even flatter than this now i do actually prefer a more curved display as i do think it looks far better than a flat one does but i have indeed had accidental touches with some of these curved displays so functionally a flat one would always be superior oh and just in case you're wondering about the colors it is said to come in the exact same phantom black that the s21 ultra and the zedfold 3 had which was by far my favorite color on any phone

but it is also said to come in this really nice looking green as well overall I do think that the s22 ultra would look absolutely amazing with this new rectangular shape and the phantom black back I do think that the only issue that some users might have is that in 2022 there wouldn't be any ultra phone with a more normal rounded design which a lot of people do prefer now the second biggest change that the s22 ultra will have is s-pen support which was really a key selling feature of the galaxy note 5 fun fact the s20 on ultra did actually add

s-pen support but instead of the pen being built into the phone you had to buy this thing separately for 40 dollars not only that but you had no way of actually storing it unless you bought this case for another 70 so even though the s-pen itself was bigger and also easier to use the fact that it was an additional purchase and that you couldn't store it inside the phone meant that there was little incentive for users to buy one and use one and Samsung did a similar thing with the zfold 3 where they added s-pen support

but in the exact same manner as on the s21 ultra with the s-pen being a separate purchase and also requiring a separate case to be stored in and if you go on Samsung's website you can actually see how Samsung's directly comparing the

s-pen usage on the zedford 3 against the

note 20 intentionally making the note 20

look worse and giving you another reason to buy the zfold 3 instead which made me believe that Samsung would never have an s-pen built into a phone ever again but apparently, that is actually not the case,

okay the third big change is the processor

for many years now Samsung has had two variants of their flagship phones the international variant which came with Samsung's own Exynos chip while us variant, as well as a few other regions, featured Qualcomm's snapdragon chip now since this is a Samsung phone you would expect the variant with Samsung's own Exynos chip to perform better right well this was actually not the case Xmas variants not only had worse performance but they also ran hotter and had a worse battery life

than the snapdragon variants, this did get better in 2021 where the exodus 2100 was only about three percent behind the snapdragon triple eight in terms of performance and finally had the same battery life but it still ran hotter which meant that in prolonged tasks such as video exporting the exodus would be up to 20 slower than the snapdragon so things still aren't fixed yet, however, Samsung's upcoming xs 2200 which is what the galaxy s22 line will feature could be the biggest update that the Xmas line has ever received and that's not actually because of any improvements to the temperatures or power draw but rather because of improvements to its overall performance you might remember the rumors from about a year ago that Samsung was about to partner with AMD on an upcoming axonauts chip well that extra chip is apparently the 2200 and aside from the obviously massive improvements to the GPU performance that we are expecting to see here elite

samsung post on weibo shows that the 2200 would also support ray tracing making the s22 ultra and the entire s22 line the first phones to ever do so however don't expect raytracing on phones to become mainstream until a lot of games actually do support it and there might be a few games that will support it at launch that will be introduced at the event but the majority of them will not that's until we start seeing more phones with ray tracing capable gpus which means that ray tracing on phones will only get big once both qualcomm and mediatek start adopting it which i predict to only happen in 2023 for qualcomm and 2024 for media attack that is in the best case scenario but okay aside from knowing about ray racing support do we have any leaked performance numbers well unfortunately we don't have any gpu numbers but we do have a few cpu benchmarks in geekbench 5 the exynos 2200 is about 16 percent faster in single core and about 10 faster in multi-core than the exynos 2100 was that's not bad but you need to keep in mind that the us variants of the s22 ultra will feature the even fastest snapdragon 898 chip according to leaker ice universe the snapdragon 898 will be almost 12 faster in single core and 15 faster in multi-core performance than the 2200 but at least the exynos will have the more powerful amd gpu with ray tracing which the snapdragon will lack

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra - What Changes do you expect!

yeah I'm really curious to see how Samsung will actually end up marketing this when only some models of their phone will support ray tracing anyway the fourth big upgrade will be in terms of the battery and according to ice universe the battery size would remain the same as on the s21 ultra at 5 000 million powers but the charging speed would be improved from the current 25 watts to 45 watts this would allow it to charge up to 70 percent in just 35 minutes compared to 55 which is what the s21 ultra can do today

however you will need to buy a separate charger for that now samsung does already sell a 45 watt charger for 50 dollars which is quite pricey so i have actually left the link down below to my favorite charger which is 66 watts and less expensive than samsung's and it can also charge three devices at the same time and the fifth big change that the s22 ultra is getting is in terms of the camera but not necessarily in a good way you see even though samsung has unveiled their new 200 megapixel sensor the s22 ultra would not have that instead it will feature an improved version of the s21 ultra sensor with slightly better details when used in that full 108 megapixel mode the ultrawide is also staying the exact same uh the 10x telephoto and the 3x telephoto both of these will be getting some changes so the resolution and the aperture are remaining the same but they are both getting a smaller sensor which is very strange now ice universe did say that these are some new sony sensors so we might actually see some better results out of these but if we are to go by the specs on paper then the s22 ultras camera does actually look inferior to the s21 ultras however i should mention that the s20 on ultra actually won all of our camera

comparisons where we tested 30 different scenarios and it actually performed better than both the iPhone 13 pro max as well as the pixel 6 pro and the reason why it performed so well was that it combines great hardware with outstanding image processing so even if those telephoto sensors are indeed worse on the s22 ultra as long as Samsung improves their image processing

we could potentially see even better results than what the s21 ultra gave us if we take a look at a pixel 6 pro for example its 4x optical zoom lens almost matched the s21 ultras 10x in our camera comparisons and that was simply because google used a clever machine learning to upskill the images and give us more zoom range than what the hardware was capable of so as long as Samsung borrows or even develops some clever machine learning for themselves they could improve the telephoto past its 10x optical capabilities okay so now that we covered

the five biggest reasons to be excited about the s22 ultra when is it actually coming out well according to john Prosser the unpacked event will be on February the 8th with the pre-order set to begin on the same day followed by a release on the 18th this does mean that the s22 line would launch almost an entire month later than the s21 line did

But this in fact is more in line with Samsung's previous release schedule which was almost always in February overall I do think that if you already have yes 20 on ultra there is basically zero reasons for you to upgrade as the only notable change for you would be the

s-pen however if you are indeed an s-pen user then I do think that this would be an even better choice than getting the zfold 3 as the s pen would essentially always be with you however if you were hoping for the s22 ultra to bring something massively new to the table like that rumored 12x optical zoom or a full charge in just 18 minutes like on the Vivo iqo it has none of that instead it is literally the galaxy note 21 ultra only with a different name and I kind of like that follow my Blog

we'll have plenty of reviews as soon as the s22 ultra is out everything from camera comparisons to the battery and charging tests...
