MacBook Pro 14 vs 16 - What I Picked! Technology

Okay so in the previous article i took a first look at the new 14 inch macbook pro and in this one i'm going to take a look at a 16 inch and compare it to the 14 inch run a few benchmarks and also compare it to the old 15 inch the unboxing experience is pretty much the same as with the 14-inch there it is the new 16-inch macbook pro holy smokes this thing is i thought a 14-inch was thicker but this is on another level the one thing that i'm curious about is the charger because this is the most powerful charger that apple sells so this is the new 140 watt usbc power adapter and it's actually quite small so this is the 13 inch micropro m1s a 61 watt charger this is the 14 inch bases uh 67 watt charger and this is the new 140 watts for the 16 inch and as you can tell it's not that much bigger and that's because this is actually apple's very first charger to use the new gallium nitride technology okay so let me just remove the plastic wrap which is now made out of paper by the way this thing is heavy and

there you go this is the new 16-inch MacBook Pro that's pretty gigantic wow okay so let's compare it against different MacBooks and see how thick this thing really is because it definitely feels like it okay so this is the 16-inch versus the old 15-inch and as you can tell the difference in thickness is very very significant same goes for the actual displays you can probably tell that the

the new display is significantly thicker than the old one but the biggest difference that I've noticed is the weight of this new one is we don't actually have a scale right here but this new one is uh significantly heavier now comparing the 16 inches to the 14 inches the 16 inch is a tiny bit thicker but not by as much as I was expecting it to be right and now

here i have the old my old 2013 50 inch MacBook pro and comparing this to the new 16 inch

yes the 16 inch is thicker but that's only because the old 15 inches used to taper around the edges however even if we open them up the 16 inch is noticeably thicker than the old 2012 design 15 inches now taking a quick look at the ports on the old 15-inch and 16-inch wheels to have two thunderbolts 3 ports on the right and a headphone jack on the

the new one we have one thunderbolt 4 port an sd card slot and HDMI and on the other side we used to have another two thunderbolts 3 ports now we have two thunderbolts 4 ports uh the headphone jack and the new max 8 port so we actually lost one thunderbolt port but we gained that new HDMI the mac save and also the sd card slot so what if we compare it against the old 2012 design

well in this case they both have the maxi ports on the left-hand side they both have the thunderbolt ports actually two of them you can see how similar they are actually of course the new one doesn't have the USB port and then we have the headphone jack and then on the other side we have the sd card slot we have the HDMI on the old one and

we have thunderbolts on the new one so it looks as if apple was heavily inspired by the ports on this old 2012 generation retina MacBook pros and now I want to take a quick look at the footprint between the new 16 inches and the old 15-inch

so the new 16-inch is quite a bit taller and wider than the old 15 inches but not by that much and then when you compare it to the super old 15 inches they're actually the exact same size this is very interesting now if you're considering between the 14 inches and the 16 inches as you can probably tell the 16 inches is significantly taller and also wider so

it's not as portable of course it is also a bit thicker and in terms of the weight yes the 16 inch is significantly heavier

now I want to take a look and see if we have any differences in terms of the actual vents so if we flip this around. we have two air intake vents on both sides now if we compare this to the previous 15 inches this one also had the two intake vents on the sides but these ones are a tiny tiny bit wider than the old ones not by a lot though now in terms of the outtake vents as you can probably tell on the old 15 inches. we had the vents underneath the hinge

whereas on the old one, we still have that but they're more oriented towards the back of the device instead of the bottom of the device.

but of course that the biggest difference in terms of events is that on the old 15 inches there were no vents at all here so they were only on the back of the device whereas here we also have them towards the screen so I can actually feel them quite easily and there's also a lot more space between the screen and the chassis and now I want to see if the vents on the new model are any similar to the vents on the very old 2012 retina MacBook pros and I gotta say they are almost identical not even kidding

so if you look at the spacing between the hinge and the chassis on these ones we also had the vents uh facing the screen and not just the back of the device just like here so it looks like Apple took a ton of inspiration from this generation of MacBook pros and it basically reverted back in a lot of ways to this one really now when it comes to the actual trackpad size you can probably tell that between the new 16-inch and the old 15-inch they have pretty much the exact same trackpad size the keyboard is a bit bigger on this one because of the full-size function row keys now when compared to the new 14-inch you can probably tell that a six-inch has a significantly larger trackpad.

now I was curious to see if the keyboard on the 16-inch was taller or any bigger than on the 14-inch and from what I can tell they're exactly the same now comparing the two display sizes the new 14-inch and the new 16-inch of course the 60-inch is considerably bigger. but I feel like I don't know for me it's like way too big it is a full-on desktop replacement that's for sure and I want to see what is the default resolution on both of these so on the 14 inches we have 1512 by 982 on the six-inch we have 1728 by 11 17 and if we go to more space

now the 16 inch is 20 56 by 1329 compared to 1800 by 1169 so of course, you get significantly more space for your windows on the 16-inch model now comparing it to the old 15-inch you can tell that well the bezels are significantly thinner even on the top you can tell that's the notch even the bezel with the notch is quite a bit thinner than the old one

now in terms of the actual display size, it is taller but in terms of the actual width it looks about the same to me maybe a tiny bit wider, and just for the fun of it this is the old 2012 retina MacBook pro 15 inch and as you can tell the height of the two displays is almost the same the six-inch is a tiny bit taller but not by a lot now let's do a quick speaker test between the 16 inches and the m1 and then we'll do the 14 inches as well

okay so first of all the volume is like what twice as loud something like that but the main difference to me was the quality like the bass was insane on the 16-inch and just the clarity of the music was way better on this one compared to the m1 now let's try the inch okay so they're both very very similar I still think the 16 inch is a tiny bit better and you get slightly more bass.

but uh i'm surprised in terms of how good the 14 inch is considering it's fairly small size okay now i want to run some quick benchmarks and see how the base 6 inch compares to the base 14 inch and the base 13 inch macbook pro with the m1 okay so let's start geekbench okay so they all finished and the differences are quite significant so in terms of the sim card performance they're all almost the same but when it comes to the multi-core the difference was quite significant so we have 2 300 points between these two and then almost 3 000 points more on the 16 inch model okay now i'm gonna run a graphics benchmark this is the aztec ruins which is a very demanding gpu benchmark uh which does take advantage of metal so let's see how all of these perform by the way if you want to see a mini led display comparison uh feel free to check out the previous video with the 14-inch macbook pro you can probably tell that uh the 14 and the 16-inch have a much better contrast also i can easily tell that this one is quite choppy so i can see that the frame rate is fairly low i would guess probably about 40 or

MacBook Pro 14 vs 16 - What I Picked! Technology

so these ones are significantly more fluid I would say 60 or even higher but we now have the scores and I'm actually very surprised so the 13 inches got 41 frames per second the 14 inches got 93 but then the 16 inch got 79 so the 60 inch actually got a lower frame rate than the 14 inch even though this one has a 16 core GPU compared to the 14 core so let me just do a quick um off-screen GPU test because this one does render the game at the native resolution of the display and considering that a six-inch has a much higher resolution that would explain why the score is actually lower than on the 40 inch okay and the off-screen test has finished so the m1 got 81 frames per second uh the 14 inch got

147 so that was almost double and then the six-inch got 165 so almost 20 frames per second higher than the 14-inch and uh almost 100 frames per second higher than the 13-inch m1 however we have way more testing to do this was basically nothing

this was literally just my first impression we have a new series coming to the blog which is going to be the Trendingcatchyproduct performance analysis which has been many months in the works so we actually built a scripting tool from scratch that automatically runs multiple tests on different computers and shows uh the CPU frequency graph the GPU frequency graph the temperature graphs and so much more in real-time so that we get an actual understanding of how these machines perform that is by far the most comprehensive performance that we've ever done and it will come out next week

so stay tuned for that definitely again check out the 14-inch article in case you missed that and the manual the uh tests are also in that one but yeah in terms of which one to go for uh the 14 inch or the 16 inches i would personally go with the 14 inch you get almost the same performance in a much smaller body which is also lighter and also a bit thinner so yeah that's basically my choice we'll also be testing the new high-performance mode and see if there are any differences in terms of that but yeah this is pretty much it for this article ...
